Dave Newman



Dave is a veteran play-by-play broadcaster who has announced more than 600 professional baseball games on radio and TV, and he has covered baseball for the Chicago Sun-Times. As a marketing and sales leader with one of the world’s largest global corporations, Dave managed multi-million-dollar business units and helped grow several brands into billion-dollar market leaders.  


In 2012, Dave completed his fifth season of professional baseball, as he announced radio play-by-play for the Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox Class AA, Southern League) and the Lancaster Barnstormers (Atlantic League, Class AAA).


His previous experience in professional baseball includes one season in Lynchburg (New York Mets Class A, Carolina League), where he also was a guest play-by-play announcer for a game on WFAN (New York) as part of a New York Mets Major League Baseball broadcast.

Dave was the radio play-by-play announcer for Salem (Pittsburgh Pirates Class A, Carolina League) for three seasons, and was twice selected as the Carolina League Broadcaster of the Year.  In addition to his role as radio announcer, Dave was the Assistant General Manager of the ball club for one season, and he guided the club to record sales, profits and attendance.


In addition to his professional baseball experience, Dave has announced Northwestern University basketball; Triton College baseball, basketball and football; College of DuPage baseball, basketball, football and hockey; the Midwest Bowl (junior college football championship game carried on several Midwest radio stations); and the National Junior College Final Four hockey championship game. 

He also has newspaper experience as he covered Chicago high school baseball for the Chicago Sun-Times.


Dave managed regional business units for more than a decade at GlaxoSmithKline, the world’s second-largest pharmaceutical company, and his sales force generated more annual revenue than any Major League Baseball club.  He successfully turned around several under-performing business units and made them profitable, despite market volatility and an economic downturn.
He was responsible for local marketing strategy and sales for six global brands that generated more than $8 billion annually.

In addition to his sales and marketing success, Dave was a motivational speaker and corporate trainer for three years, traveling to 46 states to provide leadership and business training for many of America’s top companies and organizations. 


Dave earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.


Married to his wife Kim since 1996, they are blessed with a beautiful daughter and live in suburban Chicago.
